A Message from the Club President

On behalf of the members of the Oxford Hills Rotary Club, welcome to our website. This is an exciting year for our Club because in addition to all of the things we do throughout the year, we will commemorate the 25th anniversary of our charter. To celebrate, we are planning a wonderful dinner and evening of entertainment on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, Maine.

The Oxford Hills Rotary Club area primarily includes the towns of the SAD #17 school district, Harrison, Hebron, Norway, Otisfield, Oxford, Paris, West Paris and Waterford, and we welcome members from the neighboring towns of Buckfield, Sumner and Hartford. We are located in western Maine about 45 miles north of Portland on Route 26. We meet on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 for breakfast at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. If you are in the area, please join us !

As we start the new Rotary year, we are at 40 members and climbing. Our members have a wide variety of talents and interests that we bring to our communities. Some of the projects that we support and participate in are: Students of the Month, Top 10 Students, Relay for Life, Dictionary Project, Project Graduation, the Ropes Course at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, Oxford County Fair parking, Holiday Food Baskets, Nursing Home Flowers, Toys for Kids, Child Health Center, the Progress Center, Middle School Career Day, Special Olympics, Youth Exchange, Oxford Hills Food Pantry, College Scholarships for high school seniors, Aid to the Homeless, Group Study Exchange, May Day Play Day, Polio Eradication, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Dollars for Scholars and Nursing Home Visits.

We have a number of fund raising events during the year. In July, we co-sponsor a large flea market and auction with the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club and in August, we put on a Lobster Feed. In the fall, we have a 300 Club raffle and in the spring, we sponsor a dance for Special Olympics.

As a Charter member who recently re-joined the club after many years, I am pleased and honored to be President during our 25th year. Rotary is a wonderful organization and I am looking forward to the Oxford Hills Rotary Club's efforts to "Make Dreams Real."

John Griffith, President
